Counselling for Young People in Benfleet and Online

Growing up can bring pressure, uncertainty and strong emotions. A young person may appear to be coping while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, misunderstood or unsure how to express what is happening.

Counselling provides a calm and accepting space where young people can talk, reflect and explore their experiences without feeling judged or pressured.

I work with young people in a flexible and age-appropriate way. Sessions may involve conversation, creative activities, games, visual resources or worksheets, depending on what helps the young person feel most comfortable.

Counselling may support young people with

  • Anxiety and persistent worry

  • School anxiety or difficulty attending

  • Exam pressure and academic stress

  • Low confidence or self-esteem

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Friendship and relationship difficulties

  • Family changes or conflict

  • Anger, sadness or difficulty expressing emotions

  • Loss, grief or difficult experiences

  • Starting secondary school, college or university

  • Autistic and ADHD experiences

  • Feeling different, isolated or misunderstood

A flexible and individual approach

Every young person communicates differently. They will not be expected to sit and talk continuously or make eye contact.

Sessions can include additional processing time, games, drawing, visual activities, movement or written prompts. We can work together to find an approach that feels safe, manageable and relevant to them.

Confidentiality and parental involvement

Counselling gives young people a private space to speak openly. I explain confidentiality clearly at the beginning of the work, including the circumstances in which information may need to be shared because of concerns about safety.

Parents and carers can be involved appropriately, particularly during the initial consultation and contracting process. However, the details of what a young person shares during counselling will normally remain private.

Where helpful, general themes or agreed strategies may be discussed with parents or carers without sharing the young person’s personal disclosures.
